Primula donates £25,000 to charities nationwide in centenary celebration

As we are owned by Kavli Trust, every squeeze of cheese supports good causes. We have been donating to good causes since 1962 and making our iconic cheese for 100 years.

As we celebrate a century of Primula Cheese, it only felt right to celebrate by doing what we do best – giving to good causes.

Broadcast to Heart and Smooth radio with thousands of listeners, the public was encouraged to visit our website to nominate a charity to receive funding. With 463 total nominations, there were a few for us to choose from, but five in particular stood out.

Project Youth Cancer

Sarah Dransfield (above), a young cancer survivor and now an ambassador for the charity, was one to nominate Project Youth Cancer. Project Youth Cancer‘s mental health support saved her life as they supported her throughout her diagnosis and treatments. It was inspiring to see Sarah championing a charity to help others like her. The £5,000 funding will support the charity’s work providing mental health therapy to young cancer patients.

Purple Heart Wishes

Purple Heart Wishes raises money to grant life-changing wishes to those with terminal illnesses. The founder nominated the charity and talked of her own personal experience, which encouraged her to set up Purple Heart Wishes and grant wishes for others. The £5,000 donation from Primula will grant ten wishes to people with terminal illnesses.

Spennymoor Youth Theatre Group

Spennymoor Youth Theatre Group was nominated by parents of children who have attended the Youth Theatre and witnessed their youngsters grow in confidence in the space the charity created for young people to express themselves creatively. Our £5,000 donation will support the theatre to continue putting on shows and rehearsals for young people and the public to enjoy.

Pollock United Girls

Primula are supporting Pollock United with £5,000 in funding to support and grow their girls football team. Pollock United empower girls to play a male-dominated sport and succeed, instilling confidence and positive energy.

I’m George’s Mate

I’m George’s Mate is a charity based in Durham with a mission to raise awareness of youth mental health and suicide in schools across the UK.

The charity was founded by the family of George, a young man aged 17 who attempted to take his own life in 2023. The charity have supported other families and young people in the Barnard Castle, Durham area who struggle with mental health related issues such as suicide, depression and anxiety.

Hilary, I’m George’s Mate Founder, said, “The £5,000 donation from Primula will be a great help to us in pushing mental health and suicide awareness training into schools. Youth mental health is a massive issue in our area and beyond, and the funding is a great starting point for us to achieve our mission to increase awareness and understanding of youth mental health.”
