Squeezing the joy out of your summer holiday

After the year we’ve all had, there’s no denying that we’re all craving a holiday. Whether you’re venturing somewhere new or holidaying closer to home, that time to relax, recharge and reconnect to what brings us joy has never felt more important, which is exactly why we’ve put together some top tips to help you squeeze the joy out of your summer holiday this year. Let’s make it count…

1) Think about what you’re craving most

When it comes to taking some time off, what is it that you’re craving most? Do you need to slow down and take things at a gentler pace to recover from everything life has thrown at us, or are you itching for some adventure and excitement after months spent at home? Try to tune into what will feel most nourishing to you after the last year, and factor that into your planning.

2) Plan ahead

Which leads me onto my next point… plan ahead! While going with the flow is sometimes the order of the day on holiday, doing a little bit of planning beforehand means you can really make the most of the time away. Think about what you’d love to spend your days doing and research what’s on offer at your destination of choice - that way, when you arrive you can drop the bags and jump straight into having fun.

3) Create (and capture!) new memories

One thing we’ve learned this year is just how special our memories are, and of course, holidays provide a great opportunity to make some new ones. Try to be fully present for all of those special moments that you’ll cherish looking back on, and if you can, capture them on camera or pick up some souvenirs to remember them by.

4) Connect with what you’ve missed most

Think about what you’ve missed most this year and make sure you weave that into your holiday in whatever way you can. Whether it’s friendly chit chat with strangers, pottering around cute independent shops and feeling inspired or spending the day on the beach – prioritise and savour those little things that make life feel joyful.

5) Embrace your silly side

The last year has felt so serious, and a great way to counteract that is to make sure to reconnect to and embrace your silly side on holiday. One way to do this is by reconnecting with your inner child - build sandcastles on the beach, eat ice cream for breakfast, wear your brightest outfits and generally challenge yourself to be as playful as possible. This summer, prioritise fun above all else. You deserve it - we all do!

Whatever your holiday plans this year, we hope this post has encouraged you to squeeze the joy out of them!
